Mid-March laughter 'n' things

Hello awesome human! (thought I'd change the greeting...)

As per usual, the last week has been pretty mad. Hopefully things'll calm down, as exams are coming up!

As you may have gathered, I am a bit of a comedy fan. I know all sorts of names that other people don't, which can, if I'm honest, sometimes be a pain (just picture this... Me: 'I met a comedian!' Friend: 'Cool! Who?' Me: '<insert random comedy name>' Friend: 'Who?'). However, the two comedy-related events of this week were such that this was not what happened!

Firstly, on monday, I went to see the awesome Jack Whitehall on his 'Jack Whitehall gets around' tour. Totally awesome. Plus, because of how well-known he is, I didn't have to explain who he was every 5 minutes! Highlights included a story about an interesting use of the word 'bravo', a series of events that all keep to the motto 'get it wrong gotta be strong', theories on dates at Wagamamas (especially hilarious as my mum and I had just eaten there) and, my personal favourite, the plans and theory behind a stampede early warning system and re-inaction that would have saved Mufasa from his sudden death in 'The Lion King'. i won't write anymore, but if you're interested, the DVD should be out soon. If you're not interested, well, you should be and I also advise you that the DVD should be out soon.

My second comedy-related encounter was on saturday. After the unfortunate arrival of a man and his two horribly smelling, hyperactive dogs (a topic I will probably talk more about in a future blog post...) at the pub, my dad and I decided to move to one of the other ones in our local area. This particular place has been frequented several times in the past by my close family and myself, and is the pace my mum worked and lived before she met my dad (not surprisingly, in that very pub!). Less than half an hour after our arrival, not one but TWO comedians waled in! One was Matt Forde, who not many know, but the other was comedy legend Jon Richardson! Safe to say, I was starstruck! I managed to meet, talk with and get a photo with them, as they left just after us-we didn't want to disturb them when they were just chillin' LESS THAN 2 METRES AWAY FROM US! Anyway, that was a good moment. Plus, my picture on Facebook got 11 likes!

Final event of the week was Friday, as I went with my friend to the Royal Opera House to watch Sleeping Beauty. I may not be posh or rich or have any sort of snazzy title, but I do love a good ol' ballet (especially at £10 for the seat and a half-price-because-you're-a-student programme!). It always surprises me that they don't fall over, especially when they're balancing on one leg on their tip-toe in some snazzy pose-sometimes, I can't even manage to stand still on two feet flat on the ground!
Anyway, that's it! I did have a story about embarrassing myself at Thorpe Park on thursday, but I'll save that for a week when I'm not doing so much!

That's all folks-'til next time!

Fun fun fortnight

Hi reader!

It is true to say that there was a lack of postage last week, but hopefully this post, about the last fortnight, will be uber-uber-awesome to make up for it! No promises though...

Firstly, I will have to go all the way back to Monday 2 weeks ago, when I went to THE MOST AMAZING COMEDY NIGHT EVER! Imanaged to finally get myself over to the Old Rope comedy club, in the phoenix pub just off of Oxford Street. And I can't recommend it enough. 10 comedians for the bargain price of £5, and I managed to go on the night of the most amazing line up EVER, including comedians Joe Lycett, Iain Stirling, Eric Lampaert, Milton Jones and Mark Watson! So, if you're bored on a monday and near London, this is definitely something worth checking out!

The next event didn't arrive until that Friday, where I went, along with my friend to see 'I Can't Sing: The X Factor Musical'. Seats were amazing-1st row of the Royal Circle, seats 3 and 4-especially bearing in mind they were 100% FREE!!! This was thanks to the fact that the people behind the musical needed 100 people to pose for photos, so they could be used to make an awesome backdrop, and in return we would all receive 2 tickets for the play. 50 of these photos would be used and, as luck would have it, MINE WAS USED! If you go, I'm 4th row back, 1 from the middle to the right. As for the musical itself, it was bizarre, brilliant, and unexpectedly enjoyable! Seriously, if I'm honest, I did doubt how much I'd like it, but I really did in the end.

Next came my first TV filming of 2014-a pilot of a TV show called 'Junk', hosted by Joe Lycett (2nd mention of the blog post. Typical, as I'd never seen him live before). I'll be honest, I had a little bit of an excited-fangirl moment, something that doesn't happen too often for me, when the guests were announced. Lloyd Griffith warmed us up, and Nish Kumar, Katherine Ryan and James Acaster were all guests. These names probably mean very little to most, but, to me, they are absolutely awesome! As for the show itself, I enjoyed it. Yes, it may have been a little bizarre, and a lot of my fellow audience members may have left talking about how they didn't really enjoy it, but for me it was a brilliant (not to mention free) opportunity to see some of my favourite comedians!

I also got the opportunity to see one of my very best friends who I've known since I was around 3 years old, which was great, and purchased a personalised, signed, copy of Dick and Dom's new joke book! And last, but not least, I went to the Thorpe Park preview weekend on Sunday (I'll be honest, from now until approx. September theme parks will most certainly be a reoccurring theme in this blog).

Well, enough rambling for now. 'Til next time!

The Late Post

Hello reader!

So this post is a little late. I'm sorry for that. But here's why...

As usual, last week didn't have the most extraordinary start. Mondays to Thursdays are always a little dull, if I'm honest. Of course the rest of the week didn't meet the low standard and example set by it's predecessors from the earlier 4 days. Friday was nothing short of epic! I had booked for my mum and  I to go for a 'chocoholics afternoon tea' at the Hilton for Christmas, and boy, was it good! And plus, it gave us the perfect excuse to spend the day up in LDN.

You have no idea how good this all tasted.

Having to dress up as the girl I am, I did feel a little uncomfortable. Skirts/skirt-like shorts just aren't my thing, but I was soon at ease surrounded but numerous dinosaur species at the Natural History Museum. I don't really know if it is cool and quirky or really weird that I have a slight fascination/borderline obsession with dinosaurs, specifically t-rex's (it's because of the unnaturally and down-right cruel short arms-they can't even reach their own mouths!), but I'm gonna run with it! I also got the chance to see Vincent Van Gough's sunflowers while in town. There was a short queue to access them, and totally worth it. So, if two museums and a posh tea and cake session weren't enough, I'm pleased to tell you I've only just begun...

Saturday was most certainly the busiest day of the weekend. Finishing my shift at 12, a whole 3 hours before I should have, I knew I had a busy day ahead of me. I went to the BBC Centre (not one to want to jinx it, I won't write what for on here) and got to see the newsroom, which is literally amazing!

From the event that took place, I met up with my dad, with whom I then trekked to the Hard Rock Cafe. Unfortunately there were no tables available for ages, so we meandered over to Planet Hollywood, which was so much better than I remember from the 1st time I went-food, atmosphere, memorabilia and coke floats were all absolutely brilliant! We then made our way to a brilliant night of comedy (3rd Sat in a row with one of these things!), which although had a slightly questionable audience in parts (one woman was just being downright rude!), had an awesome line-up.

Of course I had to make up my hours, so Sunday was just a blur of work (5 hours, bringing my total for the weekend to 8 hours) and yawning. Oh, and the reason I didn't write this on Monday? Well, I'll write about that on Sunday/Monday. All you need to know is that it was probably the best night out I've had ever!

Well, 'til next time!
